EvlDragonMonkey ::: Favorites 2007-12-13 19:30:36 I'm not very good at phrasing things, what I meant was that those chains of people saying that somebody is trustworthy would be very hard to get through when people on one side of the debate are saying that everybody on the other side is not trustworhty. __________________________________________________
EvlDragonMonkey ::: Favorites 2007-12-13 19:27:02 There are many topics that the majority of people don't know a thing about, in those cases it would be better to let a few experts write the article instead of the clueless masses. __________________________________________________
sonicsuns ::: Favorites 2007-12-12 17:19:43 The masses are capable of self-editing and collectively finding the truth. Studies have shown that wikipedia is almost as accurate as other encyclopedias, and I expect it to keep getting better. As for the notion that some pages will be cluttered, surely we can invent an organization system. We don't have to display every iota of data on a signle gigantic scrolling page, you know. __________________________________________________
sonicsuns ::: Favorites 2007-12-12 16:54:22 "if the majority of people are wrong about something the article will be wrong as well" Well, yeah, but what else should we do? Allow the *minority* to have power over articles? And what would make the minority any better than the majority? It's like saying "The problem with the Encyclopedia Britannica is that if the guy writing the article is wrong, the article will be wrong too". Well, yeah. That's something that we can live with. __________________________________________________
EvlDragonMonkey ::: Favorites 2007-12-12 02:16:44 That's an interesting idea but it would most lily suffer from the same problems as wikipedia. One such problem is that if the majority of people are wrong about something the article will be wrong as well. I also think pages about controversial topics would be very cluttered. __________________________________________________
GenesaiX ::: Favorites 2007-12-09 15:47:18 That factomatic thing seems like a pretty good idea. It'd be complicated to make but it's certainly possible. __________________________________________________ |
