Though it is perhaps slighlty counter-intuitive from a 3-Dimensional frame of reference, the best way to imagine an antiparticle is to understand that it is travelling backwards in time. I believe that anthologists say that because early humans couldn't explain the world around them and natural events, they put a human face on things. Such as the sun, water, thunder then that led to war, love, sex. Religion formed to keep people in line and gain power. I always ask theists were the idea of god(s) came from, and I never get an answer.
