Description: BBC One Neighbours launch promo 1986. This is a rare one.. even if I do say so myself. This promo aired on BBC 1 in London in November 1986. To celebrate 50 years of TV in Britain BBC Television launched a daytime schedule and a part of that new line-up was the premiere of the Australian Drama "Neighbours" in the UK. Watch out for the Publishing Patriarch, Bradford Meade from the new TV series "Ugly Betty", Alan Dale in one his earlier roles as Jim Robinson on "Neighbours" !! GOLD !! This episode of course was from the very first season of the Melbourne produced soap.. originally aired on Channel 7 in its first year and Channel 10 in the years to follow. It also features Darius Perkins, the FIRST Scott Robinson. Jason Donovan replaced Perkins in the role of Scott Robinson from the second season. |

AntarcticaTelevision ::: Favorites Really? I preferred it when the BBC announcers had very English accents. 07-08-19 16:35:45 __________________________________________________
80sExpert ::: Favorites Actually, must be honest, I thought that Neighbours was ABSOLUTELY BRLLIANT back then and was a bit hung up on Vikki Blanche (Julie Robinson) and Elaine Smith (Daphne Lawrence). 07-08-07 21:32:55 __________________________________________________
80sExpert ::: Favorites The post below is in reply to Rexell28 - "Australia = 1986 = England 1956." England (in fact the whole of Britain) has close links to Australia and this heightened the appeal of Neighbours. Its creator, Brisbane-born Reg Watson, also gave us our very own pot boiler "Crossroads". Australian culture was not considered old fashioned in England in 1986. In fact, the stripper storyline seemed quite racy back then! 07-08-07 21:25:03 __________________________________________________
80sExpert ::: Favorites Considering that so much Australian culture is based on English culture, that's a bit rich! The Daphne stripper storyline was supposed to excite interest. We were as up-to-date as anywhere outside America in the 1980s. 07-08-07 21:17:42 __________________________________________________
