Description: Leonid Kogan on Soviet TV (apologies for the poor quality). Here he plays Franz Waxman's Carmen Fantasy. Phenomenal playing and technique, rivalling even Heifetz's. Vengerov's out of the picture. Like Kogan, I much prefer the Waxman to the Sarasate. He loved it so much that he learnt it completely by ear, before he was presented a set of scores from the impressed composer himself, after a visit to the States.
