Without Holliday's interpretation of this piece from sheet music, the song as we know it now would not have a voice. The movie would not exist if Mrs. Holliday could not carry this on Broadway for as long as she did, and thus, Miss Hudson would have had to find another way to fame. I remember the show going over well enough until the point where she tears this up, and I'll never forget how when she finished EVERYONE stood up as one, hollering and crying -- the standing ovation went on forever. We'd all just seen something amazing and fierce and historic right before our eyes!
