Barklord ::: Favorites (?). There are plenty of things that people find valuable and useful that are not based in science. Think of some of them for yourself. One other thing...Not all religion is geared toward ethics. Some are oriented toward practical meditation techniques, prayer, ecstacy, etc. Furthermore, many religious people do not take their literatures literally. Applying Aristotelean thinking to William Blake would be equally absurd. 07-06-06 08:33:34 _____________________________________________________
nothintorollwith ::: Favorites Spirituality in general is absurd. Has absolutely no scientific backing, rather it's a political tool used to claim proper ethics - "Oh, he's a spiritual person, must be very moral." Religion is a disease. 07-05-23 13:04:04 _____________________________________________________
Mudriy ::: Favorites wayman29 I get the feeling that you're one of these Christians that believes in belief, in other words, you claim that religion has moral and ethical values and that it provides a guide through life, but you don't actually believe in God. Am I wrong? Do you believe in God? 07-05-10 18:57:12 _____________________________________________________
picco137 ::: Favorites I'm glad you felt that way. Many religious people think that atheists are the scum of the earth because they must by definition be immoral. There's a recent article in NYTimes about morality in chimpanzees - very interesting, 07-04-24 17:42:34 _____________________________________________________
wayman29 ::: Favorites Yes. It is possible to live meaningful, moral lives without religion. People were told they could not so long that they believed it. 07-04-23 23:19:34 _____________________________________________________
picco137 ::: Favorites Excellent points. First, I am an atheist. I agree that religious people are compartmentalizing if they actually think about things as you seem to do. I don't wish to talk you out of being a Christian, but I hope you will see that it is possible to live as spiritual, ethical and meaningful a life without religion. It is my hope that Christians give their kids a chance to see the world with an open mind. 07-04-23 20:06:05 _____________________________________________________
darris321 ::: Favorites haha, i think you mean merely ironic... 07-04-07 00:08:24 _____________________________________________________
youthxl ::: Favorites good points. glad to see people attempting openmindedness in their discussions. some suggested reading for christians and atheists alike that will help open eyes to other aspects of spirituality-- alan watts' "the watercourse way" and fritjof capra's "the tao of physics." both of these are slight eye openers. 07-04-02 17:14:22 _____________________________________________________
wayman29 ::: Favorites B-O-R-I-N-G. I used the Google spell check on that one.. 07-02-13 09:00:39 _____________________________________________________
themarijuandon ::: Favorites a good point in the first few minutes about atheists picking out things from statements from such people as richard dawkins like christians and such do with their religious book of choice ..ive done that before but have since wised up...good to see others noticing it too 07-02-13 02:38:13 _____________________________________________________ |
